Workshop Membership at Ray’s ShopSpace

Ray’s ShopSpace offers workshop memberships for builders, makers, and hobbyists who want access to a fully equipped creative space without needing one at home. Whether you’re working on wood projects, repairs, fabrication, or personal builds, the ShopSpace provides the tools, workspace, and community to keep making things.

Membership is open to all, with a special focus on the 55+ community—individuals who may have downsized but never lost the drive to create.

Dedicated Shop Time

Each membership includes a minimum of nine hours of exclusive shop access per month. This typically begins as one full day per month, divided into three consecutive three-hour sessions between 8 AM and 5 PM.

Our online scheduling system allows members to:

  • Trade time slots

  • Buy or sell unused sessions

  • Split sessions across multiple weeks

If the shop is not at full capacity, members can collaborate to distribute open time as needed.

Social Access & Community Use

Shop time isn’t limited to project work. Members are welcome to stop in anytime to Ray’s Place for social visits—to talk shop, share ideas, or see what others are building. The environment is relaxed, collaborative, and community-driven.

There’s always a fridge stocked with complimentary cold beverages, and members may bring a helper when a project requires an extra set of hands—or just moral support.

Transportation & Concierge Service

For members who need assistance getting to the shop or transporting materials, Ray’s ShopSpace offers a concierge transportation service.

This optional service includes:

  • Rides to and from the shop

  • Hardware store runs

  • Lumber yard trips

  • Material pickup assistance

Transportation is currently provided in a classic 1982 Toyota FJ40, with plans to add a dedicated shop pickup truck by the end of 2026.

Tools & Equipment

Members have access to a fully outfitted workshop featuring professional-grade equipment.

Large Shop Tools

  • Band saw

  • Floor-standing drill press

  • Jointer

  • Table saw

  • 12-inch miter saw

  • Router table

Mid-Size Equipment

  • Grinder / wire brush

  • Vertical belt & disk sander

  • Scroll saw

Hand Tools

Over 100 electric and manual hand tools are available, covering nearly every common shop function. Some tools are vintage—but all are functional, accurate, and well-maintained. Members also have input into a $300/month tool repair and upgrade budget.

Storage & Access

Each member receives:

  • A personal 14 × 14 × 18-inch locker (monitored by a motion-detecting security camera)

  • Access to secure outdoor project storage

  • The security code to the lockbox by the outside door for facility entry

Consumables such as blades and drill bits are member-supplied, though shared supplies may occasionally be available. Items marked with a red dot are personal property and not for communal use.

Membership Cost

Membership is $90 per month, which includes all standard tool usage.

ShopSpace Members Association (SMA)

Each membership includes participation in the ShopSpace Members Association (SMA)—a collaborative governance group that guides shop operations.

The SMA operates on a cooperative model where the community steers the day-to-day environment, and every member receives one vote. However, as the sole leaseholder and financial bank for Ray’s Place, Mark retains final veto power over operations to protect the venue’s infrastructure.

Borrowing Tools

Members may borrow tools provided they are returned before another member requires them. A refundable damage deposit is required for borrowed equipment.

Built for Builders

Ray’s ShopSpace exists to keep people building, fixing, experimenting, and creating—regardless of whether they still have a workshop at home. It’s a place where projects move forward, knowledge gets shared, and makers stay connected to what they love doing at Ray’s Place.
